Warriors fans write ‘thank you’ letter to outgoing season ticket agent Don Moffett originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area
After 26 seasons with the Golden State Warriors, Don Moffett, one of the organization’s season ticket service representatives, is retiring later this week.
During his nearly three-decade tenure with the Warriors, Don left an indelible impression on countless fans, especially season ticket members.
One family in particular wanted to honor Don’s lasting legacy:
Dear Uncle Don,
The Golden State Warriors organization is comprised of incredible individuals who contribute to the team’s success on and off the court. And while the Warriors are now a globally recognized brand with four (4) NBA Championships in the last decade and several first-ballot Hall of Famers, my father and I look back on our 15+ years as season ticket players. Our friend Don Moffett is with them all Owners the highlight of our Warriors experience.
While many other season ticket holders are also fortunate enough to know the name Don Moffett, his impact on our Warriors experience has been nothing short of profound. From the moment our seats became Don’s responsibility, he did his best to provide exceptional service. He never just made his rounds at Oracle or Chase when he came by to see me and my dad, but rather he focused on creating an amazing experience for us.
Don possesses a rare combination of qualities that make him very special. His passion and excitement for the Warriors is contagious, and the enthusiasm he brought with him as he walked through the arena at every game was evident in every hand he shook and every conversation he had. He always went above and beyond to ensure that my father and I had access to the most unique experiences and exclusive events. One particular memory stands out to me: our tour of the Warriors locker room for my father’s birthday.
As a 17-year-old kid, it can be difficult to find ways to make his dad’s birthday special, but Don had spent the time building a relationship with me that made me happy to reach out to him separately to learn how we could make this happen. Looking back on my request, I am shocked at how little guidance I gave Don and am immensely grateful for his willingness to listen to me. Don didn’t fail to deliver, my dad received a special birthday message on the Jumbotron and we were also treated to an exclusive tour of the Warriors locker room. Two of Don’s most admirable qualities shined through here: First, his commitment to creating an exceptional experience for season ticket holders was evident; and second, his kindness and compassion were expressed when he helped a son make his father’s birthday truly memorable.
Most importantly, Don Moffett is a remarkable human being. It means so much more to us than just being an integral part of our experience as a Warriors season ticket holder. He is and remains a trustworthy friend. In many ways, family birthdays, graduations, first jobs and business deals were shared with Don as my father and I came to Oracle Arena and then Chase Center to celebrate these milestones. I will always remember that Don took such a keen interest in the events of our lives and was one of our biggest supporters as we reached new heights and milestones. Conversely, I have always enjoyed hearing about Don’s recent world travels and stories, while also hoping that one day I can experience a part of the world he experienced.
While the Warriors organization is fortunate to have many talented people, not seeing Don Moffett drive through Chase Center on game day will be an unusual and bittersweet sight for me and my father. Undoubtedly, Don also has a strong network of friends and Warriors family who will miss him just as sadly. In any case, we will all remember the positive influence his character and warmth had on everyone he interacted with over the last 25+ years with the Warriors.
To Don, please enjoy your retirement, may it be filled with lots of friends, family, new travels and even better stories and experiences. And from my father and I: Thank you for all the memorabilia, pictures, unforgettable experiences, laughter, thoughtfulness and genuine kindness you showed us. You truly gave us a once-in-a-lifetime Warriors experience and we couldn’t be more grateful!
All the best to you in retirement, Don. And as always, Go Dubs!
Sincerely,
Steve and Tyler Wong
